Hanks’ performance as Downey is the latest high-profile casting for the film, which is also receiving strong buzz from critics.
The film is slated for a July 20, 2020 release.
The 2018 film was nominated for four Oscars including best picture and best director.
Other nominees for the 2017 Oscar include best actor in a drama, best supporting actor in an actor-driven drama, director and cinematographer.
The Academy of American Cinema Arts and Letters (AAACL) also released its list of the top 100 films, which include the Oscar-winning film “The Shape of Water,” which is coming out next year.
The Hollywood Reporter recently reported that “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” the first film from Warner Bros., could be on its way to theaters this month.
The list of Oscar nominees for 2018 included five for best director, two for best actor, two apiece for best actress and best supporting actress, and four for best screenplay.
